Ezekiel 28:1–10; Matthew 19:23–30
H O M I L Y
In the Gospel of yesterday, the man who sought perfection but was not ready to give up his great possessions to follow Jesus went away sad. Jesus took this opportunity to reflect with his disciples on how difficult it is for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven. This is difficult because only simple hearts—that is, undivided hearts—can enter the kingdom. The heart of a true disciple cannot be divided between Jesus and anything else. Now, the wealth to which we can become attached—and which can monopolize our heart and prevent it from giving itself totally to God—can take many forms. It may be great material wealth; but this wealth can also be intellectual, such as the thirst to accumulate knowledge. It can be emotional, such as the need to possess another person or the need to be loved by everyone. It can be the need to exercise power over others in a thousand and one ways.

Ézechiel 24, 15-24; Matt 19, 16-22
H O M É L I E

17 August 2026, Monday of the 20th week
Ezechiel 24l 15-24; Matt 19, 16-22
Homily
In the Prologue to his Rule, St Benedict, in a symbolic scene, describes God passing by in the public square and asking: ‘Who is the one who desires life?’ The monk for whom Benedict wrote his Rule is obviously the one who answers: ‘It's me! And at the end of the Rule, at the conclusion of chapter 72, which is the last written by Benedict (chapter 73 having been written earlier as the conclusion of the Rule in its first form), he recommends that we ‘prefer nothing at all to Christ; may he lead us all together to eternal life’.

15 août 2026 -- Solennité de l'Assomption de Marie
Apoc 11,19; 12, 1...10; 1 Cor 15, 20-26; Luc 1, 39-56

15 August 2026 -- Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary
Rev 11:19; 12:1...10; 1 Cor 15:20-26; Luke 1:39-56
Homily
The Gospel account we have just heard is full of a freshness that is good to find again after hearing the rather violent picture of the vision of the Apocalypse given in the first reading, as well as Saint Paul's text describing Christ crushing all his enemies with his feet, even if the last enemy he destroys is death.
