Monday after the Epiphany – January 5, 2026

1Jo 3,22-4,6; Mt 4,12-17.23-25

During this week after the Epiphany, the Gospel readings give us a description of the early ministry of Jesus in Galilee, according to each one of the four Gospels: Today it was according to Matthew; tomorrow and Wednesday it will be according to Mark. It will be according to Luke on Thursday and Friday, and according to John on Saturday. As first reading, we have every day a section of the First Letter of John, which is a long call to love. The one of today is particularly strong: “Beloved, let us love one another, because love is of God.

The Gospel of today introduces us to the early beginnings of Jesus’ predication in Galilea, even before the call of Peter and his brother James. This is a very quick transition between the narrative of Jesus’ birth and childhood to his public life in Galilea and Judea.
