H O M É L I E

          La question du bonheur et du malheur est vieille comme le monde. Dès le début de la Genèse apparaît le malheur, fruit du péché, qui vient priver du bonheur l’homme et la femme créés à l’image de Dieu, et partageant son bonheur éternel. Maudit est le serpent qui les a trompés ; maudit est le sol sur lequel il rampe et qu’ils auront à cultiver pour se procurer leur nourriture ; maudit est Caïn, qui a tué son frère et, finalement, plus tard maudits sont tous ceux qui s’en prennent au peuple que Dieu s’est choisi. (Tout l’Ancien Testament est émaillé de telles « malédictions »).

HOMILY

          “If you want to pray, Jesus said to his disciples, enter your cell, shut the door and pray your father in secret”.

          Jesus himself often did something very similar. He often went to the mountain, specially during the night, to pray his Father in secret. And if you examine all the instances in the Gospel when he does that, you will see that it is almost always before making an important decision. We have an example in today's Gospel. Before choosing his twelve apostles, Jesus spends a whole night of prayer on the mountain.

The question of happiness and unhappiness is as old as the hills. From the very beginning of Genesis, we read of misfortune, the fruit of sin, which deprives the man and woman created in God's image and sharing his eternal happiness of happiness. Cursed is the serpent who deceived them; cursed is the ground on which it crawls and which they will have to cultivate to obtain their food; cursed is Cain, who killed his brother and, finally, later cursed are all those who attack the people God chose for himself. (The whole of the Old Testament is peppered with such ‘curses’).

Fête de la Nativité de Marie,

Michée 5, 1-4a ; Mt 1, 1-16. 18-23

Homélie

          Les Évangiles sont très discrets au sujet de la Vierge Marie. Chaque fois qu’elle est mentionnée c’est pour montrer sa place et son rôle dans les étapes majeures du mystère du Salut. Elle est là au jour de l’Annonciation pour prononcer son « Oui » et recevoir en son sein le Fils du Père Éternel. Elle sera là à quelques étapes de la vie publique de son Fils et surtout près de la Croix et avec les Apôtres le jour de la Pentecôte.

HOMÉLIE

      « Si vous voulez prier, dit Jésus à ses disciples, entrez dans votre cellule, fermez la porte et priez votre Père en secret ».

      Jésus lui-même faisait souvent quelque chose de très similaire. Il se rendait souvent dans la montagne, surtout pendant la nuit, pour prier son Père en secret. Et si vous examinez tous les cas où il le fait dans l'Évangile, vous verrez que c'est presque toujours avant de prendre une décision importante. Nous en avons un exemple dans l'Évangile d'aujourd'hui. Avant de choisir ses douze apôtres, Jésus passe toute une nuit à prier dans la montagne.

Feast of the Nativity of Mary,

Homily

The Gospels are very discreet about the Virgin Mary. Whenever she is mentioned, it is to show her place and role in the major stages of the mystery of Salvation. She is there on the day of the Annunciation to say her ‘Yes’ and receive the Son of the Eternal Father in her womb. She will be there at several stages of her Son's public life, especially at the foot of the Cross and with the Apostles on the day of Pentecost.
