We are giving here the text of a communication on "Monasticism and Gnosis" given at The Institute for Antiquity and Christianity, Claremont Graduate School, in California, USA, in September 1983, during a Conference on "The Roots of Egyptian Christianity". The original English text was published in the proceedins of the Confence: VEILLEUX, Armand, "Monasticism and Gnosis in Egypt", Proceedings of the Conference on the Roots of Christianity in Egypt, Claremont-Santa Barbara, 1986, pp. 271-306.
A French translation of the same communication was published in the periodical Laval Théologique et Philosophique 40 (1984), 275-294; 41 (1985), 3-24, and also in Collectanea Cisterciensia 46 (1984) 239-258; 47 (1985) 129-151.
