Homily for Thursday of the 30th week of Ordinary Time – 30 October 2025
In Luke's Gospel, Jerusalem is the focal point around which all the events of Jesus' life revolve. It is the messianic city par excellence, where the prophet Jesus will end his evangelizing mission. There, as a priest, he will consummate the sacrifice in which he will offer himself as a victim. On the cross, he will reign as a peaceful and universal king. The last verses of this brief Gospel text indicate how Jesus presents himself, even to the Jews who will put him to death, as the source of salvation, if they finally recognize him as the Lord's Envoy.
For Paul, as the text of the Letter to the Romans, which we have just read, reveals to us, this sacrifice of Christ gives meaning to all the trials we may be called to endure. If God did not spare his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how could he not give us everything we need?
If God is for us, who can be against us? Christ Jesus died for us, and he is forever at the right hand of God the Father. Who can separate us from the love of Christ?
